Bell Materials

For all of our Custom Series Instruments, we use brass blocks with nickel silver outer sleeves. Meanwhile, we offer a choice in bell materials, all listed below with their specific characteristics.

Yellow Brass

A very resonant alloy producing a clear and brilliant sound with a very consistent tone colour at all dynamic levels – the industry standard.

Gold Brass

Like Yellow Brass, this is very versatile. Gold Brass brings a depth and warmth to the sound with quick response, flexibility and great projection.

Red Brass

The Red Brass bell is an ideal choice for the soloist who is looking for the warmest and thickest sound available. Higher in copper content than our other two bell choices, it produces a rich sound with complex overtones.

Sterling Silver

We do offer all Custom Series Trumpet models with a solid sterling silver bell. Sterling Silver is a very versatile material producing a full complement of overtones resulting in a very focused sound with great projection especially in the higher dynamics.

Gauge (Wall Thickness)

In addition, we offer our bells in a choice of gauge. In very general terms…

/

Thinner Gauge

The thinner the gauge of the bell results in a more energised, faster response.

Thicker Gauge

The thicker the gauge of the bell will result in more stability and density to the sound
Of course, this in particular is very much specific to the overall build characteristics of the individual model.

For example, the A4 Trumpet is primarily considered to be a ‘heavy’ profile trumpet. We have found that a thinner gauge in the bell maximises the tonal centre and resonance of this model.
